He sat in the front of the class and said something that was completely irrelevant, but said it with sincerity and then looked confused when the teacher corrected him. The teacher was polite and also sincere, but the children in the back of the class still laughed and snickered under their breaths.
He was conscious of the children and the noise they made.
The children were cruel.
